Welcome to Thurrock Island

Hello and welcome to Thurrock Island

Thurrock Island is a community participation project for all ages, creating artworks with the community to be used in a storybook.

The project launches on Friday 10th July 2020 and will run until 31st August 2020.

Each week we will launch a new art activity, here on our website https://ceceluna.co.uk/ and by uploading your artworks to the Thurrock Island Facebook Group or emailing them to us, you are in with a chance of having your artwork featured in the storybook.

For example, your drawings of houses will be combined to populate the island and your characters will be used to represent the community of the island and the surrounding sea.

The Thurrock Island community art project will be one of the projects featured in this year’s Thurrock Festival Digital on Saturday 19th September 2020

The Story Concept

Our story is set in a reality in which climate change has caused sea levels to rise and Thurrock is the only land left for miles.

The Island is continuing to shrink and the Landfolk are running out of space, and food supplies are dwindling due to a feud with the Merfolk following the sea-life being persecuted and captured in fishing nets.

The Merfolk have invented ways to reuse the plastic waste including turning it into power, clothing and architecture.

The Merfolk and Landfolk must work together to save their environments by sharing their knowledge and technology.
